She paused, adjusting Grace slightly, her eyes looking directly into the camera lens, piercing through the screen straight into my soul.
“You thought you were very clever, didn’t you? You thought I was too tired, too overwhelmed by motherhood to notice the smell of perfume on your shirts, or the sudden ‘late-night meetings’ that always coincided with her Instagram stories at high-end restaurants. But a mother notices everything, Trevor. Especially when her husband looks at his own daughter like she’s an inconvenience.”
A tear slipped down my cheek, burning hot against my cold skin. “Hannah, please…” I whispered to the empty car.
“I didn’t want to believe it at first,” Hannah continued, her voice tightening just a fraction. “But then I found the offshore bank notifications on your laptop while you were in the shower. And that’s when I realized you weren’t just destroying our family—you were going to ruin us financially. So, I made a choice. I chose to protect my daughter.”
She smiled, but it was a smile that sent a spike of pure ice down my spine.
“My father’s firm didn’t just audit your department, Trevor. They turned over the complete, unedited files to the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Dallas District Attorney’s office at exactly 5:00 PM this evening. By tomorrow morning, an arrest warrant will be issued in your name for grand larceny and corporate fraud.”
I choked back a sob, my vision tunneling. It was over. My career, my freedom, my life—all gone.
“But I didn’t leave this video just to tell you that,” Hannah whispered, her eyes turning incredibly dark. “I left it because there’s one final thing you need to know. Something that isn’t in the divorce papers. Something that I kept out of the court filings because it’s a secret that belongs entirely to me.”
She leaned closer to the camera, her face filling the screen. In the background, the faint sound of a police siren began to wail through the gas station parking lot, growing louder and closer by the second.
“You see, Trevor… when I went to the doctor for Grace’s two-month checkup, I had some routine bloodwork done for myself as well. And the results came back just three days ago.”
Hannah paused, looking down at Grace, then back up at the camera with a look of absolute triumph.
“I’m pregnant again, Trevor. It’s a boy. Your son. And he will grow up calling another man ‘Father,’ while you spend the next twenty years behind a glass partition. Goodbye.”
The screen went black.
Outside my car window, red and blue lights suddenly erupted, painting the deserted gas station in a blinding, flashing strobe of authority. The screech of tires echoed across the asphalt as three police cruisers blocked my Mercedes from the front and back.
What happens next? Does Trevor run, or does he accept his fate? Can he find a way to clear his name of the embezzlement, or has Vanessa successfully framed him? Find out in Part 3!
